Night Life

Writer: cotacarriecotacarrie

I originally had no idea how night photography worked and after I started taking photos it quickly became one of my favorite things to do in photography. The night we spent in Yellowstone we decided to go out into the cold night and talk night time pictures. The darkness was enveloping, but we carried what little light we had and found a great spot to set up and share tripods.

I set my setting in the van on the way over, so that I would not have to mess around with these in the dark. I had to switch my shutter speed so that it was mostly between 10-25 seconds. I messed around within these setting, seeing how much light would be exposed for various amounts of seconds. I raised and lowered my tripod, adjusting angles and getting different parts of the sky and landscape around me.

I really enjoyed night photography and would like to do it again. I found it exciting waiting to see the final photo captured. I tried to take some of the moon, but I found this interesting tree and got stuck taking photos of this. I loved how it looked silhouetted against the sky. I also found the landscape fascinating through the camera lens. My goal going out was to just get good experience in night time photography since I had never done it. I think I accomplished this, but could still try some different things like moving lights and including people.
